Chris Jericho has confirmed his return to WWE two weeks ago was a one-off appearance.

The former Undisputed Champion shocked fans by turning up on the July 25 edition of SmackDown Live, where he confronted Kevin Owens before being pinned in a triple threat US title match - also featuring AJ Styles - later on in the show.

Some had expected Jericho to be involved with the United States Championship division heading into SummerSlam later this month, but it appears he remains on hiatus for now.

In his latest Talk is Jericho podcast, the 46-year-old explained he was only ever due to come back for one night, so that the company could put the belt back on AJ without Owen - the defending champion going into the match - taking a pin.

Although he was a prominent member of the WWE roster in 2016, the last few years of Jericho's career have seen him alternate between wrestling commitments and touring with band Fozzy, of whom he is the lead singer.

He has not confirmed when (or if) he will be returning to the ring full-time, although - as one of the more accessible WWE employees - it is unlikely he will keep fans in the lurch for too long.
