CM Punk Backstage At OVW Wrestling Show

Punk's first time in a wrestling environment since January.

CM Punk was backstage at OVW's wrestling show this past weekend, according to a fan at the Voices Of Wrestling blog. This would mark Punk's first involvement with a pro wrestling environment since leaving WWE in January. There's nothing to suggest he was there as anything more than a fan, but it did mark a homecoming for Punk who worked in OVW from 2005 to 2006. It's unlikely that his backstage presence indicates any sort of signing with OVW. The group is no longer involved with WWE, and the star is considered "retired" from the entire industry. He has no desire to wrestle again. It looks like this was just a trip backstage for a bit of socialising and enjoyment. It's also possible that Punk wasn't even there. The former WWE star was spotted by "A close source who wishes to remain anonymous" is what the report says. Why would a blog need to protect "sources"? It isn't as if spotting Punk is something that would need to be reported with anonymity. So take the rumour for what it's worth. If Punk is indeed back to taking an interest in pro wrestling, that can only be good for fans of his work. It makes it that little bit more likelier he may be tempted to put the boots back on one day. Whether it's in WWE or elsewhere, we'd all love to see one more match from the best wrestler of the last few years. However, WWE could argue he still owes them six months work, which ultimately could stop him legally ever working for another company. Until he completes his WWE agreement, he wouldn't be able to agree a new wrestling deal for anyone else.
