CM Punk WWE Exit Details - His Status & Royalties Revealed

CM Punk is still earning substantial royalties from WWE, despite working out on the company in January. Officially he isn't fired and isn't under suspension, he is simply "on a leave" and it's clear he and WWE have agreed not to say anything negative about each other, according to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer. Punk still earning royalties is interesting. Stone Cold Steve Austin recently revealed that when he walked out of WWE in 2002, he stopped receiving royalty payments. The terms Punk and WWE have split on are different, Punk is still getting large royalty payments, he is still the second biggest name in merchandise sales as of just a few weeks ago. Legally and financially, Punk should perhaps have lost this money by walking out in breach of contract. However, his silence on that incident is part of why he is still earning money, both sides could have agreed upon that when he exited. The agreement suits WWE because Punk doesn't say anything negative, and the arrangement suits Punk because he still gets big money from his still significant product sales. The UFC fighter Chael Sonnen is one person who recently talked with Punk. Sonnen appeared on Wrestling Observer Radio to reveal some of his conversation with the missing in action WWE star. He said that initially he figured what Punk had told him (which you would presume was that he had quit the company) was a work, but said that as time has gone on for three months now, he's thinking that it's the true story.
