News that Dean Ambrose had turned down a WWE contract and decided to leave the promotion when his current deal expires in April broke on 29 January, providing wrestling's craziest free agency story in a year full of them.

Now, it looks like WWE's self-proclaimed 'Moral Compass' may be sticking around.

This is according to Bryan Alvarez on Wrestling Observer Live, who reports that the word going around WWE backstage is that Ambrose will likely ink a new deal with WWE, having banished all thoughts of leaving the promotion after WrestleMania 35.

It should be noted that Alvarez didn't report this as fact, and was careful to note that nothing is set in stone. However, he did acknowledge that rumblings within the company now suggest Dean will stick around.

News of Ambrose's seemingly imminent departure led to an immediate booking downturn, with the former WWE and Intercontinental Champion beaten by EC3, Elias, and Drew McIntyre in recent weeks. Perhaps an upturn is on the way, though: Ambrose reunited The Shield with Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns on Raw, and the trio will now face McIntyre, Baron Corbin, and Bobby Lashley at Fastlane (10 March).
