Dolph Ziggler Returns & Attacks WWE Champion Kofi Kingston

The Showoff is gunning for the title.

Dolph Ziggler Kofi Kingston

Dolph Ziggler made a shocking return on last night's SmackDown Live, attacking Kofi Kingston and announcing his intentions to become the next WWE Champion.

Following a fantastic match between Kingston and Sami Zayn, Paul Heyman appeared on the ramp, teasing a potential cash-in from Mr Money in the Bank Brock Lesnar. However, before that could happen, Ziggler jumped Kofi from behind and proceeded to viciously beat him around ringside.

Dolph concluded the assault by wrapping a steel chair around Kingston's head and throwing him into the announce table. Despite WWE officials pleading with him, Ziggler had one final brutal statement to make, stomping on the chair whilst it was still on Kofi, causing him to be lead away on a stretcher.

Aside from his appearance at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view in January, Ziggler hasn't been seen in WWE this year, his last TV singles match came on the New Year's Eve episode of Raw, where he lost a Steel Cage match to Drew McIntyre.

The Showoff wasn't the only return on SmackDown Live, as Big E returned after six weeks away due to a torn meniscus, although he isn't medically cleared to compete yet and had to be taken to a medical facility prior to Kofi's match due to a backstage attack.

Dolph Ziggler later addressed why he went after Kofi Kingston, explaining that Kofi's opportunities should have been his, and subsequently he was going to beat him and become WWE Champion at Super ShowDown in Saudi Arabia next month.
