According to a report from PWInsider, Friday’s episode of Impact Wrestling was designed as a backdoor pilot of sorts for a new studio-style TV show for the company.

This studio show has been discussed as a secondary series for if and when Impact manages to find a new cable home in the US.

Titled Cali Combat, this Friday’s offering was filmed at Port Hueneme, California’s Oceanview Pavilion venue used for Championship Wrestling From Hollywood.

Announced matches for this unique Impact Wrestling offering are Michael Elgin vs. Rhino, Tommy Dreamer vs. Sami Callihan in a No DQ contest, Reno Scum vs. Tag Team Champions The North, and Rich Swan vs. X Division Champion Jake Crist.

Currently, Impact Wrestling is housed on the Pursuit Channel in the United States and live-streamed out on Twitch. In recent months, however, Impact has had all kinds of problem with Pursuit – such as incorrect episodes airing or the time when the show was never brought back from an ad break.

Of course, things have rarely ever been smooth for Impact Wrestling since the promotion debuted as NWA-TNA back in 2002. Now though, it looks as if Impact is again looking to test the waters with a different format and approach.
