How Long Does It Take To Make A WWE Main Event Star?

WWE's most recent push of a Superstar straight to Main Event has been Tensai. Debuting as Lord Tensai, he was booked to have main event wins on Raw over John Cena and CM Punk soon after he was introduced. However crowd reaction to the gimmick has been lukewarm at best, and already the character has undergone a slight change of name to just 'Tensai'. As well as this, a rethink of this choice to push him so soon also seems to have been confirmed after the loss to John Cena in early June and being seldom booked in the weeks since. So it seems to be that no matter how long it takes some Superstars to arrive and stay at the Main Event level, travelling a certain road to get there is more of a key to being seen as a viable star by viewers in the long term. Punk, Cena, Orton all had to ply their time in the Midcard before being seen as someone who could credibly challenge at the top spot for a length of time. Hot shotting someone to the Championship through either the Money in the Bank or a big push from their TV debut has more often than not resulted in talent then returning to lower profile matches before getting their chance again. Luckily for WWE they do seem to have a good number of names on the roster who have served their time over the last few years challenging for the less prestigious Championships. With the right pushes we could see these names follow the career path of other Main Eventers and transition to the top of the card in the near future, hopefully for the fans then staying their for years to come.
