How Much Would It Cost WWE To Purchase TNA's Content Library?

Estimates say Vince McMahon would need to shell out $500,000 to acquire the complete Impact Wrestling footage.

Vince Mcmahon Tna Wrestling There is mounting speculation that WWE will buy TNA's video content library. On Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer stated that he believes the industry rate would be around $500 per an hour of TNA footage. That means it would cost Vince McMahon roughly $500,000 to acquire Impact Wrestling's combined content from over the years. All of this speculation follows reports that Spike TV will not renew TNA's TV broadcast deal. That leaves TNA in a precarious position financially; they had been reliant on Spike's TV money and the platform it gave them to promote. Without those securities, TNA may look to sell off their assets. Chief amongst this is the hours of wrestling they produced over the years. However, TNA may find themselves in a position where WWE will only pay for the content at a lower figure. There are on-going budget cuts in WWE right now, an implementation of austerity to set off the high costs of launching the WWE Network. While WWE might be interested in TNA content for the Network, they don't necessarily have the $500,000 to spare that would get them the footage. TNA would either have to sell at a reduced price or hold on to the content in hope of a future use. The big issue for TNA is that they might be forced to sell the content cheaply as a way of salvaging some money from their failed brand. F4Wonline.com noted that they're unlikely to sell their TV broadcast rights without a renowned marquee star. They previously had Hulk Hogan and Sting. Kurt Angle is still with the company but has made clear his intention to leave this Autumn. Despite decent cable ratings, TNA just isn't an attractive brand for any potential new broadcast deals. Just like WCW in 2001, WWE might swoop in and pick up TNA's history at a reduced price.
