Jerry Lawler Received Death Threats Over Donald Trump Tweet

Lawler's public show of support for the presidential candidate was met with immediate negativity.

Jerry Lawler is no stranger to politics. The wrestling legend and current WWE announcer once ran for Mayor of his hometown of Memphis, Tennessee. However, a simple tweet Lawler sent out last week resulted in more backlash over politics than he has likely ever received. If you're a longtime wrestling fan, you've probably heard Lawler make the occasional political reference over the years. Typically during presidential election years, Lawler has been known to take a political jab when a chance arises while he is doing commentary. This time, Lawler made his support for Donald Trump's presidential run known via social media. Lawler sent out the following tweet last week, and it was met with immediate blowback from many of his followers: https://twitter.com/JerryLawler/status/697019865840951297 Trump is certainly a controversial figure in American politics these days. His supporters are fiercely defensive and proud to stand by him, while his detractors viciously dislike Trump and everything that he stands for. Of all of the presidential candidates in the United States, polls show that he is the most disliked among the general electorate. Lawler told WMC Action News in Memphis that he received death threats after his pro-Trump tweet was sent out. He has since said that sending out the tweet concerning his own political views probably was not a good idea, and Lawler has said he's going to try to stay out of politics from now on.
