John Cena Says WWE Heel Turn Will "Never Happen"

You should never say never in wrestling but John Cena is.

"Never happen." That's how John Cena replied to a comment about a heel turn from Mark Bell and his cameraman at the Supertraining Gym in Sacramento recently. The video was released on Youtube and runs for 7:41 with about 20 seconds of Bell and his friend suggesting a heel turn to Cena. The discussion about wrestling didn't last too long. Most of it was about weightlifting, which is something Cena enjoys a lot. There was one other moment where Bell wondered if Cena had it in him to go heel. Cena replied confidently: "Oh I've got it in me for sure... I do what they tell me, boss." In other words, he's confident he could pull it off although he doesn't really think they're going to ask him. He's got a point there. Cena offered them the $1 bet from the movie Trading Places, which was his way of saying that he would bet them he would not go heel. The cameraman wanted to talk more about it, but you could tell Cena wasn't interested because he moved on to talking about lifting again and that was the end of the wrestling talk. If you're a long time WWE viewer than you know that Cena was a heel for most of 2003 until he turned babyface later that year and he's been in the face role ever since. While it's true that a Cena heel turn could be a huge move for WWE to do and potentially something that makes them a lot of money because viewers would be interested to see what Cena might do in the role, there are reasons that WWE is hesitant about doing it. Cena's still the top draw in the company by far, his merchandise numbers are the best and when you consider he's granted over 300 Make-A-Wish wishes (the most of any celebrity by far) it shows how much people really do like him. Just because some fans may not like him since he's won so much in his career doesn't mean he's going to turn heel. If Cena turned heel he would probably be seen as "cool" again by the fans that think he's lame right now because his promos would be more interesting and seeing him with an attitude is what won him over with the fans back in 2003 anyway. It's probably not going to happen mainly because he's such a moneymaker for WWE and they're not in a position right now to take that kind of risk. Never happen? He's probably right, but in the wrestling business we've also learned to never say never.
