John Cena Set For WWE SmackDown's FOX Season Premiere?

Could the 16-time World Champion follow in The Rock's footsteps?

John Cena could be on the verge of becoming the latest big-name addition to WWE's blockbuster SmackDown FOX Season Premiere lineup.

Per speculation from Cageside Seats' Rumor Roundup column, talk is that the 16-time World Champion may appear on Friday's mega-show, particularly after WWE publicised Cena's recent appearance on the Ellen DeGeneres Show (and partnership with FitOps) during last night's broadcast.

As with all speculation, a pinch of salt should be taken here. Regardless, as one of the biggest mainstream crossover stars in modern WWE history, getting Cena involved for what should be one of the year's biggest shows makes all the sense in the world for the promotion, particularly as his last appearance was back at WrestleMania 35, when, as the Doctor of Thugonomics, he bantered Elias into the ground.

Last night saw Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson announce that he'd be in the house for the big Season Premiere. With his appearance, the 20th Anniversary Celebrations, and matches like Kofi Kingston vs. Brock Lesnar and Shane McMahon vs. Kevin Owens, it's impossible to fault the effort WWE have put into this episode. Here's hoping they follow up with a quality show.
