Reigning IWGP Heavyweight Champion Kenny Omega will defend his belt against allies Kota Ibushi and Cody at NJPW's King Of Pro Wrestling pay-per-view (8 October).

This rare New Japan three-way dance was announced at the end of last night's Fighting Spirit Unleashed show in Long Beach, California, with Omega grabbing the microphone for a traditional post-main event address.

With Kenny and Kota defeating Tomohiro Ishii and Kazuchika Okada, 'The Cleaner' challenged his tag partner to a rematch of their hard-hitting G1 Climax clash. 'The Golden Star' defeated Omega that night, which traditionally entitles him to an IWGP Title shot, but Cody interjected before Ibushi could answer.

Having won the IWGP United States Championship earlier in the evening, Cody suggested that the trio go head-to-head in a Triple Threat, and Omega quickly accepted. Thus, the match is now set for King Of Pro Wrestling.

The move plays on recent storylines, with 'The American Nightmare' once again painted as a master manipulator, having talked his way into a Heavyweight Title fight out of nowhere. It preserves the big Omega vs. Ibushi rematch for a later date as well, though Cody's involvement suggests he's only there to eat the pin.
