Kurt Angle Having Neck Surgery To Remove Tumour

Also includes spoiler on recent TNA World Title defense.

Kurt Angle made a major announcement during Saturday's TNA Impact taping when he told the crowd that he has been diagnosed with a tumour in his neck and will require surgery. According to PWInsider, Angle has known about the tumour for a year, but it has been causing him a lot pain of late leading to muscle atrophy, which is why he's having surgery. There is no timeline announced for when the 46-year-old will return to action. Angle's announcement will likely air on Impact in either late July or early August. Angle lost the TNA World Title to Ethan Carter III during the tapings on Thursday that will air next week on Impact. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ufZGdUYbSaM Angle has had a history of neck problems dating back to the 1996 Olympic trials when he suffered what was essentially a broken neck. After months of rehab, he was able to fight through the pain and won an Olympic Gold medal in freestyle wrestling. During his WWE career, Angle often times talked about winning a gold medal with a "broken freakin' neck" as a way to put over his toughness. There's no question that his absence will hurt TNA's product that is currently dealing with a lot of behind the scenes problems due to wrestlers leaving the company as well as questions about how long Impact will be on the air. What's most important is that he gets his health in order, so it's good that he is taking care of this tumour that he's been dealing with. https://instagram.com/p/4ckTKliYGD/ All of us here at WhatCulture wish Angle the best during his upcoming surgery and the recovery that will follow.
