Matt Hardy Set For Big WWE Gimmick Change?

Could the 'Woken' character be set to return?

Matt Hardy only reprised his legendary partnership with brother Jeff a few weeks ago, jumping ship to SmackDown as the reformed Hardy Boyz inserted themselves into the blue brand's stacked tag division. The elder sibling has even taken to decking himself out in old '90s-style attire to sell the change, but now, surprisingly, it looks like he's already thinking about shaking things up.

According to Dave Meltzer in this week's Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Matt has been pushing the idea of working a new gimmick to company officials.

The 44-year-old has taken to referring to himself as 'The Multifarious' Matt Hardy in recent YouTube videos:-

These clips have seen Hardy bring back a number of old characters from the past, including Woken Matt, Matt Hardy V1, and Big Money Matt - a gimmick he worked in both Ring Of Honor and Impact Wrestling.

This should all be taken with a hint of cynicism, given Matt's long-held fondness for working fans on social media. A few weeks ago, he was talking about moving on from WWE when his contract expired, only to sign a new deal just a few days later. He's a worker, and there's every chance this is a work, but it's interesting nonetheless.
