Monday evening brought the news that Rey Mysterio had replaced Rusev in the Tuwaiq Trophy Gauntlet Match scheduled for WWE Super ShowDown 2020 this Thursday (27 February), with PWInsider claiming that WWE decided to pull 'The Bulgarian Brute' as he is yet to come to terms with the promotion on a new contract.

Today, we have a conflicting report from Dave Meltzer, who claimed on a recent episode of Wrestling Observer Radio was actually taken off the card because he is dealing with a previously unreported back injury.

Meltzer added that Ru-Ru "essentially backed out of the show." Interestingly, PWInsider are now reporting the back injury as well.

No matter what's going on with Rusev at the moment, the Saudi Arabia situation is just another shovel of mud into the already murky pool that is his pro-wrestling future. The former WWE United States Champion is constantly subjected to mass speculation. In fairness, much of this is brought on by the man himself, though things have intensified around recent talk of a contract dispute between Rusev and WWE.

There's currently no word on the specific nature of Rusev's injury or how long he'll be out for.
