The hottest few days on the Japanese wrestling calendar concluded this morning at Tokyo's Korakuen Hall, with New Japan's traditional post-Wrestle Kingdom show New Year Dash. The event featured the usual array of multi-man contests, designed to pivot the company in the intended direction for the new year.

Here's what went down.

In the opener, Roppongi 3K & Rocky Romero vanquished KES & Takashi Iizuka after Yoh rolled up the rampaging latter for the upset. Furious with the outcome, Davey Boy Smith took his frustrations out by powerslamming a Young Lion on the floor after the bell. What a sod.

After denouncing Hangman Page before his match, Chase Owens tagged with Yujiro Takahashi to thwart Tomoaki Honma & Toa Henare with a package piledriver in a lovely bout.

Juice Robinson & Dave Finlay escaped the Best Friends with a DQ victory after Chucky thew a chair at Robinson.

Will Ospreay, Tomohiro Ishii & Hirooki Goto got the better of Jeff Cobb, Yuji Nagata & KUSHIDA when Ospreay hit KUSHIDA with the Stormbreaker. As you might imagine, this was an absolutely terrific contest.

Having now turned over a new leaf, Tama Tonga refused to engage in any naughty behaviour as the Guerillas of Destiny & Taiji Ishimori defeated Togi Makabe, Toru Yano & Ryusuke Taguchi to retain their NEVER six-man titles. After the match, Chase Owens reunited with The Bullet Club despite his earlier renunciations.

Taichi distracted the ref long enough to smash Tetsuya Naito with the IC title and hit Black Mephisto for the win in his ten-man tag match alongside Minoru Suzuki, Zack Sabre Jr., El Desperado, & Yoshinobu Kanemura against Naito, EVIL, SANADA, Shingo Takagi & BUSHI. After the contest, two further feuds were set up as Sabre and Suzuki waylaid EVIL and SANADA, whilst Kanemura and Desperado battered BUSHI and Shingo.

In the show's conclusion, Jay White, Bad Luck Fale & Gedo got the best of Kazuchika Okada, Hiroshi Tanahashi & YOSHI-HASI. White caught YOSHI-HASHI with the Blade Runner to pick up the win. Afterwards, he cut a promo on Tanahashi, who walked right into his trap, only to be saved by Okada. Bad Luck Fale took the hero out, and Jay White ended the night hoisting the IWGP title. Blimey.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
