Punishment Martinez Set For WWE
Concludes ROH tapings ahead of NXT move.
It seems Ring Of Honor's Punishment Martinez is WWE-bound after completing his pending tapings last night.
Martinez, whose ROH contract expired last month, dropped his Television Title during his last match at the Las Vegas recordings. According to PWInsider.com, WWE have had a keen eye on Martinez for "some time" - and Full Sail University now looks his most likely destination. The Wrestling Observer's Dave Meltzer confirmed the New Yorker will soon alight in NXT.
The 36 year old, a champion in Goju-ryu katate, began his professional career in 2004 training at Danny Cage's Monster Factory wrestling school. He latterly attended the ROH Dojo, making his bow with the company in 2015. A couple of impressive dark matches gave way to a place in the promotion's Top Prospect Tournament, which the newly-renamed Punishment Martinez exited in the second round at the hands of Lio Rush.
Martinez earned a contract on the strength of his debut tournament, going on to win 2017's Survival of the Fittest cup and joining the company's tour of Japan alongside NJPW.
WWE have not made any official confirmation on Martinez's drafting to the Performance Centre, but it seems only a matter of time.
