The Rock To Star In New Baywatch Film

WWE legend to be part of lifeguard reboot.

WWE legend Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson has confirmed that he'll be starring in Paramount's feature film adaptation of Baywatch. The 42 year old actor tweeted "This is my beach bitch!" Rumors are true... #BAYWATCH #RatedR #RedShortsBeHugginABrotha". The addition of Johnson to the Baywatch project is a sign that Paramount have big box office ambitions. The action hero star was one of Hollywood's biggest draws for 2013 and has proved to be a commercial success. He's also earned some critical plaudits, notably being one of the better parts in last year's Pain & Gain. The Hollywood Reporter confirms that Paramount have also "hired Justin Malen to rewrite and has attached the hot comedy writing team of Sean Anders and John Morris (We're the Millers) to direct." It sounds like the film could be a lot of fun. The 80's and 90's generation will have fond memories of the Baywatch TV show, nostalgia for its red swimsuits and catchy theme tune perhaps overruling memories of the actual quality of the show. The lifeguard drama made a star out of Pamela Anderson and also gave a new lease of life to David Hasselhoff as Mitch. Perhaps 'Mitch' will be the role that Dwayne Johnson takes on for the movie. His tweet "this is my beach bitch" seems to suggest he could be the head lifeguard. The hashtag "RedShortsBeHugginABrotha" backs up the idea he'll be wearing the distinctive red of Baywatch's finest. Johnson's role in Baywatch might come as a disappointment to WWE fans. There are hopes he'll make a return to the wrestling ring at some point next year, but you'd have to say his movie schedule looks busier than ever. He has San Andres and Fast & Furious 7 due for release in 2015, with a further four projects being worked on now including Baywatch. WWE had been interested in booking Rock for March's WrestleMania 31, but the rumour has now gone fairly quiet. The speculation had been for The Rock vs Brock Lesnar, but Lesnar is now penned to wrestle the upstart Roman Reigns.
