Roman Reigns Crowned WWE Champion On RAW

The Roman Empire has become!

In a surprise move, Roman Reigns became the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion when he defeated Sheamus on last night's RAW from Philadelphia. On a night that also saw Vince McMahon make a shock return, the WWE owner, who was playing heel in the absence of the 'injured' Triple H, placed Reigns into the main event with the stipulation that if he didn't win the WWE title, he would be fired. The Raw finale saw Vince so desperate for Reigns not to win the title and be fired that he interfered but it didn't make any difference - Reigns hitting him with the Superman punch and then defeating Sheamus with the spear to become WWE champion. The shock title change can only be explained as WWE panicking with months of historic low ratings. In terms of timing and how it played out, it made no sense from a logistical booking sense to have Reigns win the belt this way. It will be interesting to see if this desperation move has popped the rating WWE so badly need but if it doesn't.... it does beg the question, what would? This is now Roman Reigns' second run with the WWE World Heavyweight Title after previously winning it at WWE Survivor Series, before losing in 5 minutes to Sheamus, who cashed in his Money In The Bank briefcase to steal the gold.
