Roman Reigns Royal Rumble Opponent Revealed On WWE SmackDown
WWE drafted in a Raw star to challenge SmackDown's head boy at the Royal Rumble.
Seth Rollins will challenge Roman Reigns for the Universal Title at WWE's Royal Rumble 2022 pay-per-view on 29 January.
The Raw man was revealed as Roman's next opponent towards the tail end of Friday's episode. This is...odd, not least because Rollins (like Reigns) is a strong heel, albeit one with more comedic tendencies. Seth did his over-the-top laugh as SmackDown went off the air.
WWE has yet to make the match official official, but it seems destined to happen after that confrontation.
Adam Pearce and Sonya Deville were shown conversing in the back about possible challengers for Roman - it was left to Pearce to find a suitable opponent, and he apparently has the power to undermine WWE's recent Draft (remember that?) by bringing in workers from Raw.
Why not, eh?
It'll be fun to see how WWE handles this heel vs. heel scenario, at least. The company aren't prone to booking that sort of thing, so it does feel fresh. Reigns vs. Rollins also isn't something fans have seen for a few years now, and it's hardly like the pair will stink the place out in-ring.
Still, a puzzling choice.
