Rumour Killer: Kenny Omega NOT Offered Creative Control By WWE

'The Cleaner' may well join WWE, but he won't be getting special treatment.

Last week's news that WWE had made a 'fantastic' offer to sign then-IWGP Heavyweight Champion Kenny Omega upon his NJPW contract expiring at the end of January led to much speculation on the offer, including the suggestion that Vince McMahon was so desperate to land 'The Cleaner' that he'd offered him creative control.

Unsurprisingly, this doesn't seem to be the case.

Dave Meltzer rubbished the rumours on a new episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, noting that WWE wouldn't be breaking their policy of not offering creative control clauses to new signees for Omega.

Omega's claim that he plans on leaving NJPW this month threw his wrestling future up in the air yesterday. It could be a work, as Kenny and his chosen outlet (Tokyo Sport) have prior when it comes to such things, but with NJPW ruling out the prospect of working with All Elite Wrestling, current speculation suggests that the 35-year-old will choose between AEW and WWE.

Creative control may have proved irresistible for Kenny, who'd be sacrificing much autonomy by signing a standard WWE contract. Still, breaking this years-old tradition would've been a major stretch, even for someone as talented as Omega.
