Dio Maddin has been replaced by Samoa Joe on the Raw commentary desk over the last few weeks - and he isn't set to return any time soon.

As revealed by Ryan Satin on last night's episode of WWE Backstage, the Samoan Submission Machine is penciled to stay in the announce booth until he is cleared to return to ring action. Joe suffered a broken thumb during the King of the Ring semi-final threeway back in September, and has not wrestled since.

Meanwhile, Maddin has been written off TV following his assault at the hands of Brock Lesnar last month. It's understood the former NXT trainee has designs on once more stepping into the squared circle, and has returned to Full Sail's Performance Center for training.

Former New England Patriots' man Maddin swapped football for wrestling back in 2016, training under Booker T, before debuting in Houston's Reality of Wrestling promotion as Marcellus Black.

He signed for WWE shortly afterwards. In September of this year, he began announcing duties on 205 Live, and made the step up to Raw during the month's big 'Premiere Week'.

The timeframe for his in-ring return is unknown at present.

He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
