Sting Special To Air On WWE Network This Friday

Details of special Sting broadcast for this Friday.

WWE is to broadcast a special programme about Sting's wrestling career on the WWE Network. Taking place this Friday at 10pm eastern time, 'Sneak Peek: The Best Of Sting' will be a special preview of WWE's new Sting DVD. The programme will immediately follow Smackdown going off the air, so there's a chance it'll be promoted on the blue brand broadcast. Fans can expect a glimpse behind WWE's seven hour DVD collection of Sting's best matches and moments. It basically sounds like a way for the company to advertise their product. Ironically, much of that DVD will actually already be available on WWE Network. As such, WWE's logic here doesn't really make too much sense. Fans will watch the Sneak Peek show and get an interest in the content, but surely they'll then just look the matches up on the Network? This is a long term problem WWE's DVD business is really going to have to address. You can see how a documentary like the Paul Heyman DVD can do sales, but how can match collections now survive against the cheapness and availability of the Network? The Sneak Peek idea shows that at least WWE are trying to generate interest in their DVD business, but this effort is so short sighted that it's almost unbelievable. The Best Of Sting DVD has been met with good reviews so far. Fans are praising the match quality, but at the same time criticising the lack of an actual documentary. That's probably something you'd expect WWE to set right in 2015, when they'll presumably launch another Sting release to coincide with his expected WrestleMania 31 match.
