Stone Cold Steve Austin Is Getting Set For WWE Comeback

"I'm trying to get back into shape for a comeback."

Stone Cold Steve Austin has confirmed that he's getting set for a return to WWE. The former Attitude Era headliner told listeners to his podcast "I'm trying to get back into shape for a comeback." Although he didn't elaborate any further, it has been strongly speculated in recent weeks that Austin is training hard for a possible match at WrestleMania. Indeed, Dave Meltzer's Wrestling Obsever recently noted WWE was starting to produce more Austin merchandise for the coming months. The reason for this seems likely to be some sort of WWE television return for the Texas Rattlesnake. Despite serious issues with his neck, Austin has always been of the mindset that he's got one last match in the tank. He teases this constantly, but usually doesn't end up doing anything. It looks like this time might be different. The 49 year old has previously said he's in the best shape he's ever been in. He's also acutely aware that his age makes it a "now or never" scenario for any potential WWE match. If you remember back to WWE's Tough Enough show a few years ago, Austin was able to roll around a ring and looked just fine. He's ready to go if the money is right. WWE will no doubt pay big bucks for their biggest ever star to come back. This would be the biggest match of the century, no matter who the opponent is. It's a real shame that CM Punk isn't around, because that was always the one match fans really wanted to see. More likely is Austin vs Triple H. That was the match that got rumoured in 2013 and it makes sense given Hunter's Authority heel role. John Cena would be another strong contender, with Undertaker and Brock Lesnar as outside bets. All being well, hopefully we'll see Stone Cold Steve Austin back in the ring at WrestleMania 31.
