The Rock Was Number One International Box Office Star Of 2015

$1.4 billion... no wonder he's reluctant to wrestle again.

Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson was the number one international box office star of 2015. He shared the news on his Instagram, stating "THANK YOU. WORLD'S #1 INTERNATIONAL BOX OFFICE STAR. I was blessed with this title in 2013 and now again in 2015. $1.48billion is a lot of revenue to generate in our business in only one year." His films this past year were Furious 7 and San Andreas, both of which did very well at the box office. The $1.48 billion figure Rock mentions, that's exactly why he's reluctant to make a return to the wrestling ring. He's set to appear at WWE's WrestleMania 32 on April 3rd, but isn't thought to be competing on the show. Industry expert Dave Meltzer believes it is an insurance issue. You can understand why that would be the case, Johnson is too valuable to Hollywood. He's worth far more on the big screen than he is in the wrestling ring. Big budget films are investing in him as a box office draw, and they can't afford to lose him to potential injuries. In his last match, back at WrestleMania 29 against John Cena, he did suffer an injury, which was a wake up call to him that mixing wrestling and filming isn't a good idea. If it had impacted his shooting schedule, it could have been very costly.
