This AEW Original's Contract Just Expired

Another AEW departure confirmed following news of Lio Rush's impending free agency.

Peter Avalon's All Elite Wrestling contract has expired, reports PWInsider's Mike Johnson.

The write-up notes that the AEW original's deal was amongst several expected to expire over the coming weeks and months. In addition, Avalon may end up continuing to work for AEW on a per appearance deal, though this hasn't been confirmed.

Fightful Select reported earlier this month that they had heard in mid-December that Avalon's deal was due to expire sometime in the near future. Peter was then booked for AEW's 15 January Dark tapings at Universal Studios, Orlando, Florida, teaming with JD Drake in a defeat to Orange Cassidy and Wheeler Yuta.

Avalon has been with AEW since his signing was confirmed during an April 2019 episode of Being The Elite. He has played a number of different roles for the promotion since then, though his run has played out almost entirely on the undercard - and typically on Dark and Dark: Elevation rather than Dynamite and Rampage.

Introduced through the 'Librarian' storyline with Leva Bates, Avalon transitioned into a feud with Brandon Cutler when that elapsed. Recently, he has been seen teaming with Drake, Ryan Nemeth, and Cezar Bononi as The Wingmen.

The 32-year-old announced earlier this week that he was now taking independent bookings.
