TNA Bound For Glory 2011 PPV Review - Hulk Hogan vs Sting

October 16th, Live from Philadelphia full recap and results of TNA's biggest PPV of the year.

TNA Bound For Glory 2011October 16th, Live from Philadelphia Obligatory shot of the Liberty Bell and of course Rocky before we move into the Bound For Glory hype video. Then we are listening to Stain€™d (for the first time since 2001 if you€™re anything like me) as we go LIVE into the arena. You€™d think for their biggest show of the year they€™d have some pyro. X Division TitleBrian Kendrick vs. Austin Aries Lockup, the crowd strongly behind Austin Aries for some reason. We are in Philly tonight, the crowd could be interesting. Kendrick hip toss and a side head lock take over or three. Austin gets out of each one with an easy head scissors. Kendrick dropkicks him outside, where Aries decides he needs a time out. Of course Kendrick cant resist a vaulting cross body block. I can understand them cheering who they want. But why boo Kendrick? 2 Count off a flying cross body from Brian. Two monkey flips follow that, Aries blocks the third and flattens him with a clothesline. Aries with his rolling senton over the ropes then a shimmy elbow for two. Aries digs a knee in his back and puts on a chin lock. Kendrick fights out with some shots but Aries drops him again and the crowd are dying to see the Pendulum Elbow. Kendrick kicks him when he takes too long and rolls him for two. Kendrick to the top rope. Jumps over a charging Aries, who catches him, drops him on his knee and this time gets the Pendulum Elbow! Two count. Aries sprints, Kendrick stops him with a boot and a nice Tornado DDT for two. Sliced Bread attempt blocked, Aries throws him outside. Suicide Dive through the ropes!! Back in the ring, Aries with elbows to the face and his full speed corner dropkick. Suplex attempted, Kendrick slides out, roll up gets a two, Sliced Bread, Aries counters and places Brian on the top. He rakes the back but takes more time to shout at the crowd. Kendrick grabs him, and flips backward over him with a HIGH Sliced Bread! One, Two, Foot on the Rope! Kendrick now goes for Sliced Bread on the APRON but Aries holds on to the ropes sending Kendrick to the floor. Back in the ring he BOOTS him in the face. Another full speed dropkick. Brain Buster! One, Two, Three! Great opener. Loved the high angle Sliced Bread. Backstage, Karen Angle is disgusted that the kids are spending time with Traci Brooks. She gets the kids to leave then tells Traci to never go near her kids again. She tells her to put her breasts away too. €œWe don€™t need to confuse Cody any more.€ Then she produces a referees outfit for tonight€™s match for herself. And she warns Traci not to come out of the dressing room unless shes in harms way, then tells Jeremy Borash to come with her while she changes? Full Metal MayhemRob Van Dam vs. Jerry Lynn For the uninitiated this is a TLC match pretty much. €œECW€ chant inevitably. Give the TNA censors some work for when the DVD comes out. RVD leg strength roll up and a few clotheslines then the running heel kick in the corner. He goes for rolling thunder but Lynn meets him mid air with a dropkick. RVD catches him off a Tornado DDT and reverses, Jerry reverses the reversal, RVD with a snap mare, and the stare each other down. Lynn charges for a cross body to the outside but they get tangled up and stuck in the ropes instead. RVD gives him a leg drop on the apron and this time they do fall to the floor. RVD tries moonsault off the guard rail, Lynn moves, RVD meets the ringside floor. Lynn pulls out a ladder. RVD pulls out a chair, Lynn baseball slides it into his face. Back in the ring, RVD gets a cross body that drives Lynn into the chair. Two Count for that! RVD chokes him in the corner and gives him the chair dropkick down there. Sets up the ladder now in the opposite corner and whips Lynn into it. Ladder falls on top of Lynn, RVD decides to give the ladder a Rolling Thunder while its on top of Jerry. RVD back flips to pick up a chair for no reason, and Lynn dropkicks it into him. Lynn rests the ladder on the ropes, RVD manages to crotch himself on it. Lynn aims a springboard leg drop at RVD, who moves, sending Lynn leg first into the ladder. Van Daminator attempted, Lynn ducks and throws the chair HARD at Rob€™s face. Lynn then gives him a bridging German Suplex NARROWLY missing the leg of the ladder. 2 Count. Lynn sets up up for a suplex on the chair, but RVD reverses and suplexes Lynn on the ladder. RVD sets up the ladder to monkey flip Lynn. Jerry jumps to the top rope, RVD rushes, they meet in the middle with Lynn giving him a clothesline. Lynn rolls out and gets another ladder. Half the front row clears as he sets it up against the guard rail. RVD grabs him for a suplex on it from inside the ring out. Lynn blocks, flips over RVD and power bombs him, but the ladder gets kicked out of the way and RVD hit€™s the guard rail instead of the ladder. Back in the ring Lynn manages a two. Lynn swings a chair, RVD ducks and Van Daminator connects this time! One, Two, Kickout. RVD sets him in the corner for the Terminator. Places the ladder on him instead of a chair. He takes the chair with him, Jumps and boots the chair into the ladder into Jerry Lynn€™s face! Cue that Holy Shit chant as RVD pins Lynn beneath a ladder for a 3 Count! A bit sloppy in parts, and the spots didn€™t all go as planned. The finish made up for it though. After the match, both men hug, Lynn raises his hand. Looks like the mutual respect is back between the two. Earlier today, Dixie Carter arrived at the arena! Samoa Joe vs. Matt Morgan vs. Crimson The video before this one was much longer than it needed to be. The faces team up on Joe to begin with. Crimson swings a punch back and accidentally hits Morgan. Joe works on Crimson in the corner, dares Morgan to take one at Crimson. Morgan and Crimson play punch tennis with Joe€™s head. Double hip toss. Crimson charges, Joe bridges him outside then sweeps Morgan€™s leg. Morgan starts selling that leg right away that was hurt on Impact. Crimson and Morgan have a bicker about who gets to pin Joe. Morgan takes a tumble outside, Joe throws Crimson over the top and onto Morgan! Then he leaps THROUGH the middle ropes and flattens Crimson with a fore arm! Joe and Crimson trade shots, Morgan climbs the TOP turnbuckle and jumps to the outside. Joe side steps and Morgan connects with Crimson. In the ring, Joe toys with Crimson until Crimson snaps and gets some knees to Joe and an over head suplex. Morgan slides in to steal the pin but Joe kicks out. Now Crimson and Matt come face to face. Joe interrupts them again, they give him a double shoulder. Morgan pulls Crimson off the cover, Crimson does the same. Now they€™re ready to fight. Morgan throwing big believable hands and gets the better with a shoulder block. Joe pulls him outside and gives Crimson a shot. Back in the ring again, Joe is all over him with strikes and a Pele kick. Places him up top for the Muscle Buster€ Morgan runs in and boots him. Carbon Footprint called for, but for some reason instead uses a running knee. Leg gets tangled on the top rope. Crimson spears Joe and pins him for three. Bit weird why would Morgan suddenly use a knee. Crimson undefeated streak continues. Bully Ray stalks up on Jeremy Borash. He lets Anderson know that he€™s been exploiting Philly for 15 years. Milking the fans for all their money. Raping them in fact. He claims he has 7 cars and 5 houses. But yet just one Yankees beanie. Falls Count AnywhereBully Ray vs. Mr Anderson Anderson bypasses the usual entrance stuff and charges the ring instead. Anderson goes for the Plunge early on but Ray slips out and boots him. Ray removes Andersons shirt and slaps him across the chest. Bully ducks one shot from Anderson, but not the second kick. Anderson takes a Welcome to Philly Asshole sign and batters Ray with it. Then he removes the paper to reveal that the sign was actually a road sign underneath. Another shot for good measure. Out at ringside, Anderson smacks him with a beer. A fan throws a drink at Anderson and he looks legitimately annoyed. He thinks twice about decking her. Ray sends Anderson into the steps and gets a table. They fight up the ramp to the stage where Bully blocks two suplexes and gives Anderson one! Ray is busted open. He calls for Andersons mic to drop down, which it does. Ray gives himself an introduction, Anderson style, but Anderson gets up and hits him low. €œThis aint New York, welcome to Philly, BITCH!€ Then smacks him with the mic. They make their way backstage now. Bully Ray gives Anderson a Pile Driver on the CONCRETE. Anderson somehow kicks out. That could€™ve been the finish if they€™d kept it. Back out to ringside they go, through the crowd. Anderson boots him in the balls. Anderson removes a section of guard rail and slides it into the ring. He takes too long allowing Ray to clothesline him. Ray gets another table and sets it up in ring. He runs at Anderson who back drops him onto the rail! Anderson goes up top and flies off with the Senton Bomb! Ray MOVES and Anderson hit€™s the guard rail. He stumbles to his feet, Ray gives him the Bully Bomb through the Table! One! Two! Kickout! Crowd firmly behind Anderson. Bully places him on the rail, but now its HIS turn to miss a move from the top. Anderson then Mic Checks him onto the rail! One, Two, Kickout! They head outside again. Anderson finds a trash can and smashes Ray with it, who rolls onto the other table. Anderson climbs the apron, then the turnbuckle. Swanton Bomb on Ray, but he grazes him and the table doesn€™t break! They call an audible and he gives him a Mic Check through it instead! One, Two, Three! Shame that Swanton spot didn€™t work that would have been a beautiful finish. But kudos to both men for a hard hitting hardcore spot filled battle. They will both be hurting tomorrow. Somewhere else backstage, Bischoff is talking to his son the referee telling him Hogan has to win. Bischoff says tonight they take out Sting. Tazz and Tenay are totally shocked at the reveal that Jackson James is Bischoff son. To be honest, I forgot all about that angle, I thought that was revealed ages ago. Knockouts Title 4 Way with Karen Jarrett as refereeVelvet Sky vs. Mickie James vs. Winter vs. Madison Rayne Madison gives Karen her tiara to wear. Karen raises the title before the match. Upside down. This is one of those 4 ways where you have to tag in and out. Mickie rolls Winter up right away but Karen is slow/doesn€™t count. Mickie cartwheels out of an arm bar but gets dropped right away again. Mickie pulls out a Hurricanrana on Winter and a neck breaker. Winter rolls outside. Madison comes in on Mickie, throws her outside. Velvet comes in behind Madison and gets some knees and a bulldog. She has a pin but Karen has to re-tie her shoe. They shriek at each other. Madison throws down Velvet but Winter breaks the pin. Winter and Madison argue but Karen talks them into tagging in Mickie and Velvet. Karen wont count any of the pins Velvet and Mickie are getting on each other. Crowd start a €œboring€ chant. Velvet head scissors Mickie. Velvet and Mickie throw some weak shots at each other. Winter and Madison pull them both outside. All four are in the ring now. Mickie and Velvet take over on the other two. Crowd are dead. Mickie is left in with Winter, Karen tells Mickie off. Angelina hands Winter something, Mickie turns around, Karen tells her off again, when she turns back Winter goes to spit in her face. Mickie ducks and instead it goes in Karens face. Mickie with her jumping DDT. No ref€Traci runs out. Karen is in harm after all, shes allowed. Velvet Pedigrees Madison with a sit out. Traci counts. One€Two€Three! Kazarian is asked about Roode and he thinks he can win, but hes torn about Daniels and Styles facing each other. Video package recaps all the other times AJ and Daniels have crossed paths, and they€™ve had some serious classics. I Quit MatchAJ Styles vs. Christopher Daniels It€™s a brawl to begin with, and Daniels drops him with an STO and tries to make him quit right away. Daniels is about to tell AJ what to suck when AJ decks him with the mic and feeds it to him. Back breaker, gut buster combo. I hope this isn€™t one of those matches where the mic is in their face every 12 seconds. And as I say that, an abdominal stretch is on Daniels and the mics in his face. He doesn€™t quit to it normally why would he now. AJ with a beautiful hanging suplex, and not long after rolls Daniels over into an arm lock. Daniels with chops and shots to the back of the head. AJ up and then under, trademark Styles Dropkick sends Daniels outside! Picture perfect over the top rope senton from AJ! Daniels goes under the ring and pulls out a tool box. With wrench in hand he throws at AJ, who dives out of the way sending wrench into the steps. Daniels lifts a screwdriver and follows AJ in the ring. He tries to stab AJ in the FACE with it, but AJ holds him off and wont quit. This would could get gruesome a la AJ vs. Tommy Dreamer. They fight to the apron, Daniels manages a big boot then goes for a Blue Thunder Drop on the apron. AJ leg gets caught on the rope but thankfully he doesn€™t land TOO awkwardly on the floor. Daniels asks him to quit again. €œNo? Okay.€ That was nonchalant. High back body drop back in the ring. AJ wont quit again, Daniels gives him the Best Moonsault Ever across his back! Daniels plays to the crowd as they chant One More Time. Instead of giving them what they want he puts AJ in a half crab. AJ makes it to the ropes and kicks him off. Goes for a kick, Daniels catches him and drops him across his knee. Daniels takes a chair into the ring and sets it up over AJ throat. He smacks him in the head with the mic and draws blood. He sits over him in the chair and berates him. Daniels says he never wanted him to say I Quit, he was happy to bash his brains in instead. Daniels then calls out to Styles wife and tells her to remove the kids from the room before they see their dad get murdered. He raises the chair high, swings, AJ moves. AJ gets his springboard reverse DDT in one swift motion. Flying forearm from Styles. Goes for the Clash, blocked, Daniels drops him, goes for the BME, AJ moves, Daniels lands on his feet. Boot to the face of AJ. He runs at him, AJ ducks and gets the Pele, straight into the Styles Clash! The chair is AJ€™s now. But he remembers the screwdriver. Daniels backs away as AJ walks towards him. Daniels takes the mic and just quits. Just like that. €œI quit, don€™t hurt me man.€ After all that. Terrible ending. Daniels sprints away from ringside. We recap the entire match, and AJ is celebrating up the ramp. Daniels runs out and attacks him from behind. He picks him up and gives him the Angels Wings on the stage. Then he shouts €œHe never beat me.€ Despite just being beaten. Jeff Jarrett graces us with his presence. Jeff Hardy must not have used his ticket cause hes not at ringside. I hope hes not late, we know what happened last time he showed up late. Jarrett gets on the mic and says he warned Hardy not to step foot in Philly, but he heard he did. HE says TNA wants nothing to do with Hardy. Jeff says he and Karen interviewed people and 9 out of 10 said they never want to see Hardy again. Jarrett calls Hardy out of hiding. He says he brought him in, he€™ll take him out. Hardy gets his own entrance despite being €œBanned.€ And even new entrance music too. Crowd are cheering for him too, I didn€™t expect that in Philly. Hardy: €œI just wanna say one thing to you.€ And with that he boots him and they fight. Jarrett comes back with some right hands, Hardy bounces back with a clothesline. Security comes out to break it up, they continue to keep fighting back and forth while security gets in the middle. Now come the agents, D Lo and Al Snow. Huge D Lo chant. Finally Jarrett is cleared out and Hardy plays to the crowd. Complete Control of TNA on the LineHulk Hogan vs. Sting Shots of a nervous Dixie in the crowd. Sting comes out in Hulkamania t-shirt. Starts off with a bit of sparring. Then Hogan calls to the back and out comes RIC FLAIR. Eric Bischoff's son is in there as the ring too. You know its going to be great when Hogan is wrestling in jeans. Sting head lock, pushed off, Hogan shoulder block. And he cant help but Hulk up and get a pop. Crotch chop from Hogan. Sticks a weak knee in Stings back. Sting fights up and out but falls to a clothesline. Outside the ring Flair chokes Sting and low blows him. Ref doesn€™t care cause its Jackson James. Hogan goes out and gives him another. Flair passes Hogan a weapon and he decks Sting with it. Back in the ring, Hogan does a Flair strut as Sting bleeds like crazy. He starts to fight back and drops Hogan with a punch. Sting takes down Flair and takes something out of his hand. He punches Hogan with it a couple of times, which busts HOGAN open now. Stinger Splash! And another to Hogan€™s back. Goes for the Scorpion Death Lock€Its in. He taps out and the referee calls for the bell, although reluctantly it looked like. STING wins back control for TNA and I smell a massive swerve coming on. Ric Flair jumps in and on Sting and the rest of Immortal come out with chairs. Bully, Gunner and Steiner beat the hell out of Sting as we get a shot of over Abyss shoulder watching through the curtain. Jackson James takes the chair off his dad and doesn€™t let him hit Sting. Bischoff takes the chair to his own kids back. Steiner drops Sting with another chair and Sting BEGS for help from Hogan. Crowd can sense the Hogan turn now too. He rips off his shirt and hulks up. Flair charges, Steiner charges, everyone charges, everyone takes a right hand from Hogan. Immortal have him outnumbered, but turn to see Sting on the other side of them. Hogan and Sting take out Immortal between the two of them. Hogan and Sting empty the ring and come face to face. Bischoff is only one left and Hogan decks him. What I have to ask is€ why would Hogan turn on Immortal after months of doing heinous things? Just because Sting begged him? The most forced of face turns. TNA Heavyweight TitleKurt Angle vs. Robert Roode Hogan and Sting have left Angle and Roode roughly 15 minutes for their main event. Crowd are behind Roode. They lock up. Roode with the shoulder. Drops Kurt into a cross face early but angle gets the ropes. Kurt rolls outside, pulls Roode out with him. Kurt is noticeably hurt going into this one too. Back in the ring, Angle gets a shot in at Roode stomach. Kurt with a nice snap suplex for two. Kurt must be more hurt than he is letting on because the match is mostly rest holds so far. Roode fights out of another and gets some rights. Misses a clothesline, Kurt gives him a German. And another. 2 Count. Kurt kicks him and goes up for a moonsault. Roode follows him up and gives him a massive German from the top rope, flipping Kurt Angle over in mid air, landing on his face and shoulders. They fight back up to their feet. Roode gets the momentum and beats down Kurt with clotheslines. Sets himself on the top rope€ Block Buster! One, Two, Kickout. Kurt with a release suplex for two. Kurt drops him with a beautiful DDT for another two. The straps are down and Kurt calls for the Angle Slam. Roode reverses, Spine Buster! One, Two, Kickout! Roode goes up top again, this time Kurt charges up and gives him a suplex back into the ring. That€™s another two. Back to their feet, Roode surprises Kurt with the Cross Face! He has him further from the ropes this time. Kurt crawls, but gets an arm on Roode€™s foot and grabs the ankle. He turns the move into an Ankle Lock and twists it on Roode. Roode struggles, now HE reverses the move with a roll through into a Cross Face again! Kurt rolls him again into a cover this time for two! Kurt charges, ANOTHER Cross Face from Roode! Kurt rolls through AGAIN and this time picks him up for the Angle Slam! One, Two, Kickout! Kurt looks SORE. Kurt picks the ankle again. Roode struggles but kicks him off. Kurt charges into another Spine Buster! Roode lifts him, Fisherman Suplex! One, Two, Kickout! Duelling crowd chants now. Ankle Lock is on again. Rolled through, Bobby pins him, one€two€Kickout! Angle Slam reversed, Bobby with an arm drag. Elbow to Kurt, Block Buster set up. Kurt puts the ref in between them to block the move. Roode comes down, Kurt low blows him. Referee didn€™t see it. Angle Slam! One€Two€No! Angle waits on him and gives him a German, a German€blocked€Roode Cross Face is on again! Kurt again struggles towards the ropes€and hes there. Angle spears him out of nowhere. Two count only. Kurt goes up top again. Flies off, but gets caught in ANOTHER Cross Face! Kurt rolls through, boots him, Angle Slam reversed, Roode boots Angle. Fisherman Plex€blocked by Angle, he jumps through, Angle Slam!! Roode is at the ropes and seems to have a foot/arm under the ropes. Referee counts anyway. And he gets to three despite Kurt holding onto the rope as well as Roode€™s hand being under the rope. Tricky finish. And just like that, the Bound For Glory series that lasted MONTHS, is over inside 15 minutes. Kurt Angle, still your TNA Champion.
