TNA Confirms Kurt Angle Re-Signed With The Company

The truth behind Angle's claims of loyalty.

TNA has issued a press release touting the fact that Kurt Angle has re-signed with the company. This is despite the fact that Dixie Carter already confirmed the news on Twitter, and Angle himself revealed his re-signing a few weeks ago. The press release was instead designed to be a promotional tool for TNA's upcoming debut on Destination America. It pushed the fact that Angle can be seen live on the January 7th debut show on Destination America. €œI€™m extremely excited to remain with TNA Wrestling,€ Angle stated to TNA's website. €œThe driving force behind my signing is the honesty, great communication and positive changes being made by Dixie Carter and John Gaburick. Things are moving upward and forward at TNA, and 2015 will be a great one for all of us at IMPACT WRESTLING.€ He has since tweeted, "It's official. Happy to be part of the TNA wrestling roster! TNA has been loyal to me and I will do the same." The truth is actually very different. The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reported earlier this year that Angle actually tried to get re-hired by the WWE when his TNA contract expired in the Autumn. He reached out to Triple H, and then went to Vince McMahon when that proved unsuccessful. Unfortunately for Angle, neither Triple H or Vince McMahon was interested in signing him. The reasons for this are understandable. Kurt left the WWE on very bad terms in 2006 and is still viewed as a physical liability. There is no way that Vince McMahon wants to risk an Olympic Gold Medalist dying on WWE's watch. Perhaps a one-off match could have been worked out, but under the circumstances of a part or full time deal, Angle and the WWE just aren't a good fit. As a result, Kurt was left with limited options on what to do with his wrestling future. There was the prospect of Japan and Jeff Jarrett's new venture, but realistically, re-signing with TNA was his only viable option. It was less about loyalty and more about circumstance.
