Women have always been a constant in wrestling. They might not always be inside the ring but a wrestling promotion's roster is usually full of the fairer sex in some form. Recently, WWE has pushed their women's division through their reality show Total Divas and moves their "reality storylines" into the ring. The newest crop of Divas might be reality television stars but there have been many before them who have rose to stardom within the industry. Women and wrestling have gone together for decades and there have been many names that have stuck with fans throughout the year. Some got by on their in-ring ability while others became popular with fans because of their drop dead good looks and their ability to charm a crowd. No matter how these women achieved fame, the bottom line is that they have become part of wrestling lore so it would be short-sighted not to recognize them.
10. Lita
The most recent female inductee into the WWE Hall of Fame, Amy Dumas (better known as Lita) made her mark on the wrestling world in the early 2000s as a manager before moving on to become one of the most popular female wrestlers in recent history. After being inspired by Rey Mysterio, Lita trained and made several appearances for the EMLL promotion in Mexico before running into Matt and Jeff Hardy. The brothers trained her further and soon she was booked in Extreme Championship Wrestling as Miss Congeniality. It was during this time that she began attending Dory Funk's wrestling school and Dory sent Lita's tapes to the WWF. They were impressed enough with her work that she debuted as the manager of luchadore Essa Rios. It was soon obvious that Lita had overshadowed her client and she was split off to join the Hardy Boyz. The trio formed Team Extreme and her involvement in her matches made her into a legitimate superstar. Soon, she was feuding with Trish Stratus for the Women's title and they made history by becoming the first female match to main event Monday Night Raw. Soon enough, real life would spill over into wrestling as Lita engaged in an affair with Edge while Matt Hardy was at home with an injury. The heat of the feud catapulted Edge and Lita to the top of WWE as the top heels and Lita embraced her new evil slut role. A final rivalry with Mickie James was the swan song of her career. Lita retired 2006 and has only made sporadic appearances since then. Lita was undoubtedly one of the most popular figures of the late Attitude Era and influenced countless numbers of future female wrestlers.
