The story of Kurt Angle's return to WWE seems to develop on a daily basis. Only yesterday, Angel was quoted as saying that Vine McMahon himself told him they have “wonderful plans” for him now that he’s back in the fold and now Triple H has now put his thoughts out there regarding the matter. Unfortunately, it’s fair to say he seems to be a little less optimistic than the Olympian.

Speaking with the Cheap Heap podcast, Hunter had this to say on whether or not we’ll see Kurt Angle compete again in a WWE ring:

"We were very clear with Kurt, I've been very clear with Kurt in every conversation I've had on this topic. It's a proving ground. He did a lot of great things and then there's a lot of time under the table, comes with a lot of baggage, all those things. It just comes back down to 'let's get back together, let's see how it goes, if it goes well for you, if it goes well for us, and everything is great and then we see where it goes from there.' We're not going to say never. Kurt would have to go through a lot of physical requirements to be able to be allowed to perform in the ring, and I know that angers fans. That's us looking out for the well being of talent in general, whether they like that or dislike that, that's the facts."

This is probably the most honest any of the parties involved have been regarding the situation. While Angle seems at peace with the idea he may be done in the ring, yet confident he'll still get the opportunity to compete, Triple H is speaking the brutally honest truth here.

Angle has given his body to this business, and he's suffered a lengthy list of minor and major ailments and injuries during his career. It was that damage to his body that led him down the dangerously dark path of addiction - something he has been outspoken about having conquered - and in order for WWE to agree to let him get back in there and perform he's going to have to prove that he's mentally and physically capable of doing so.

While fans will want nothing more than to see one of the greatest workers of all-time get in there with a list of dream matches of men he's never faced as well as return bouts with those he had such great success in the ring with, what's most important is Angle's well being.

It's paramount that we remember that if WWE decides it's not wise to allow him to compete again, it's likely for the best, no matter how disappointing it is.
