The Ultimate Warrior: His 10 Best Matches

9. Ultimate Warrior vs. Sgt. Slaughter - Royal Rumble 1991

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s7vG7kyokfM After the Warrior had won the title from Hulk Hogan at WrestleMania VI, he engaged in a series of great matches with "Ravishing" Rick Rude. Following that rivalry, Vince McMahon seemed to lose faith in Warrior as the champion and shuffled him down the card and into the Demolition vs. Legion of Doom rivalry. Apparently, if you wear face paint the rules of wrestling state that you must brawl. At Royal Rumble 1991, the Ultimate Warrior challenged newly turned heel Sgt. Slaughter. Slaughter had returned to the WWF and turned against the United States, aligning himself with Iraq during the first Persian Gulf War. The character was in completely poor taste since American servicemen were dying in the war and now we had a wrestling heel on television gloating about it. For whatever reason, Vince McMahon was determined to put the title on Slaughter in preparation for a showdown with Hulk Hogan. At the conclusion of the match, Randy Savage appeared at ringside with his manager Sherri and distracted the Warrior. Savage had been an off-and-on rival for Warrior during his title reign and was poised to challenge him at WrestleMania. The "Macho King" smashed his scepter over Warrior's head and ended his rival's time as WWF champion.
