The Ultimate Warrior: His 10 Best Matches

10. Ultimate Warrior vs. Honky Tonk Man - Summerslam 1989

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hzmWjqzOtfk We might as well begin with the match that propelled Ultimate Warrior into the title scene once and for all. In the summer of 1989, the Honky Tonk Man had been the reigning Intercontinental champion for what seemed like forever. HE had used various heel tactics to escape with his title against the likes of Tito Santana, Jake Roberts, and Ricky Steamboat. So many fans wanted to see Honky get squashed that Intercontinental title matches would headline house shows. The storyline had almost reached its end and fans were clamoring for someone to shut up Honky once and for all. At Summerslam 1989, Honky Tonk Man was scheduled to take on Brutus Beefcake for his title. However, Beefcake was kayfabe injured by Ron Bass leading up to the event, leaving Honky without an opponent. When it came time for his match, Honky told the Madison Square Garden crowd that he didn't care who his opponent was and said "get me someone out here to wrestle!" That would prove to be his final mistake as Intercontinental champion. The Ultimate Warrior's music hit and the roof nearly came off of MSG as Warrior sprinted to the ring. Whereas other opponents tried to make Honky suffer, Warrior simply attacked and destroyed the champion in under a minute. Warrior hit his big splash off the ropes to win the title and the crowd went ballistic. Seriously, I challenge you to watch that match and not feel the hair stand up on your arm.
