Update On WWE's WrestleMania 31 Main Event Plans

WWE are set on a determined course.

WWE are determined to stick with a rigid plan for WrestleMania 31's main event, according to the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter. The plan is for John Cena to be defeated by Brock Lesnar in the WWE Title Match at the Royal Rumble, and Roman Reigns will then defeat Brock for the title at WrestleMania 31. This will make Reigns the new star of the company and Cena will become the resident legend. Even though Reigns is currently out injured, WWE are still pushing him hard, as witnessed by his video interview on Raw and new nicknames 'The Juggernaut' and 'The Big Dog.' What won't be happening is a scenario like the 2014 Mania season. WWE switched plans from Batista to Daniel Bryan, based on how popular the underdog star was becoming. Whatever happens with Dean Ambrose's growing popularity, we aren't going to see a situation similar to Bryan. WWE will stick with Roman Reigns in the big Mania spot. The Observer also mentions Reigns' expected recovery time. He had surgery for a hernia in late September, and was expected back by late December. Even the worst case scenario for his recovery would be missing the Rumble, but being back in plenty of time for WrestleMania. One thing that is set to change is WWE's February pay per view. There's no need for the Elimination Chamber gimmick, as the plan is for Brock's WWE title defences to be at the Rumble and then Mania. As such, WWE have rebranded the February show 'Fast Lane, and will instead use the chamber in June. As one of the best drawing gimmicks, the hope is that it will help retain Network subscribers with its new half year placement on WWE's schedule.
