Vince McMahon Apologises To CM Punk During Steve Austin Show

Austin asks McMahon about CM Punk.

Vince McMahon has personally apologised to CM Punk over the way WWE fired him on his wedding day. The comments came during Stone Cold Steve Austin's Podcast interview on WWE Network. In one of the best shows ever seen on the Network, Austin bluntly asked McMahon if he wanted to talk about CM Punk. "I would like to apologise," McMahon replied, "Punk got his severance papers on the day of his marriage and that was coincidence." McMahon then explained that the reason for the bad timing was down to miscommunication within WWE's varying departments. He expressed frustration at attorneys getting involved as things then turn into "hell in a handbasket" and get complicated. "I want to personally apologise," he again emphasised about the timing - although he didn't say sorry for anything else. Despite Punk's outbursts on the Colt Cabana podcast last week, McMahon didn't seem too bothered. He said that he didn't listen to the show and only heard that there was a lot of expletives. He believes Punk might regret some of the things he said, but is hopeful of working together in the future. "I hope one day we'll be able to get back together again," McMahon stated. He then rhymed off men like Hogan and Warrior who had also left WWE on bad terms and in the end came back. Regarding how Punk and WWE got into their dispute, McMahon only said "Punk has a lack of communication skills. He's pretty much a loner." The entire Punk discussion came off as positive. Whether McMahon was bluffing we will never know, but he certainly seemed open and a little regretful. Austin was very pro-Punk in all of this and compared it to his own frustrations with the company in 2002. The WWE Chairman came off very well and really got his point across about how difficult it is to manage something as big as the WWE. We will much more on the other big talking points in a full WhatCulture feature later today.
