Vince McMahon Contacts WWE Employees After 55 Firings

Vince gets ruthless as the WWE Network takes its toll.

Vince McMahon has contacted WWE employees to offer reassurances over job security, reports PWinsider. The WWE Chairman sent out an email later on Thursday night, following the release of 7% of WWE's Headquarter employees earlier in the day. Those releases were a cost cutting measure in reaction to the WWE Network's average 700,000 sales. The budget cuts equated to around 55 employees. McMahon's subsequent email revealed the staff reduction process was over. If you got the email, you were still in a job. As for those who lost their jobs, they were considered expendable workers in minor positions. It remains to be seen if WWE's cost cutting will impact upon any of their on-air talent. Ricardo Rodriguez was released earlier this week, but he hadn't been used significantly in a long while, it was hardly a shock to see him moved on. The main WWE roster releases came in June, with 11 wrestlers being "future endeavoured." These sorts of releases are unfortunately essential. WWE has invested significantly in the WWE Network and to a lesser extent the WWE Performance Centre in recent years. Those long term investments need supporting by short term cuts. There's also the fact that WWE has to answer to the stock market, they need to show action in making the WWE machine as well oiled as it can be. The Wrestling Observer reports that the cuts will help WWE significantly from a business perspective, making the WWE Network break even target lower than it originally had been.
