Shinsuke Nakamura defeated John Cena to become the number one contender for Jinder Mahal's WWE Championship on SmackDown's August 1st episode. A strong TV main event, it was unfortunately hampered by a mistake during the closing stretch, with Cena landing on his head from an inverted exploder suplex.

'The King Of Strong Style' apologised after the match, to which Cena replied "don't be sorry." Sadly, it sounds like their boss hasn't been as forgiving.

Sports Illustrated's Justin Barrasso is reporting that Vince McMahon is furious with Nakamura for endangering his company's biggest star. Cena avoided injury, but this couldn't save the former NXT Champion from Vince's wrath, with the write-up contradicting original reports that the accident was written off as a "fluke thing" backstage.

Barrasso adds that while McMahon was upset, he hasn't hasn't lost faith in Nakamura's abilities, though his opinion may change in the event of another big slip-up. Nakamura will face Mahal at SummerSlam on August 20th, though there's no word on whether or not his alleged heat will have a bearing on the match's outcome.

The specific exchange between Cena and Nakamura can be viewed below, starting at the 2:40 mark:-
