Vince Russo Claims Triple H Kept Him Out Of WWE

Russo not shy about taking a shot at Triple H.

According to former WWE head writer Vince Russo, Triple H is the reason that he's not working for the company that he helped reach incredible heights in the Attitude Era. Russo told Ring Rust Radio that when he nearly returned to WWE in 2002, he saw that Triple H was in a position of power and that he couldn't get back into the company because of him.
"I was very disappointed when I almost went back to WWE back in 2002 and found out more or less Triple H was not in my corner after all I did for him. Fast forward twelve years later and you see the position he is in and Stephanie is in and now it makes all the sense in the world. If you eventually want the power, then you want to keep a guy away like a Vince Russo away who from a creative stand point is going to produce better content and better TV than you can. A Vince Russo is a better writer and went to school for writing to be a writer and knows the art of writing. When that happened in 2002 and I learned he was working behind the scenes to keep me out of the WWE, I would be lying to you if I told you my opinion of him did not change."
Russo has never been shy about putting himself over as a successful writer. He had a lot of success in WWE doing it professionally, but 2002 was also shortly after he worked for WCW and WWE may not have been willing to bring him back as head writer after he bolted from the company without much notice in the fall of 1999. They did bring him into the mix in 2002, but by that point they had assembled a bigger writing team and Russo has previously talked about how things had changed. Would he have been okay with being part of a team of writers? That doesn't seem that likely. There was also another story that he shared about Triple H refusing to do a job.
"When Triple H was breaking into the WWE, and the Madison Square Garden incident happened (in 1996), where he became the scapegoat, there was nobody in his corner more than me. When that character was first being developed, there was no one developing that character more than me. I used to write every single one of his promos. I only had one instance working with him that he really disappointed me. He straight out didn€™t want to do a job to D€™Lo Brown and I really had an issue with that."
The Triple H character made some significant changes in 1997 with the DX gimmick and Russo is likely telling the truth about having a major role in that because he pushed for a more edgy product as much as anybody. It's easy to understand why Russo is upset that Triple H wasn't there for him when he tried to get back in WWE and shows that Triple H does tend to look out for himself quite a bit.
