Rey wants a Jericho-esque role...

Almost three weeks removed from returning to WWE in the 2018 Royal Rumble, Rey Mysterio could be set to sign a new part-time deal with the company.

This is according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter's Dave Meltzer, who writes that while the former World Heavyweight Champion may not return until as late as 2019, he's interested in working a similar schedule to Chris Jericho. This would allow him to appear on WWE TV for certain periods of time before taking time off to focus on his own projects or work elsewhere.

'Y2J' set the internet ablaze when his NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 12 match with Kenny Omega was announced, but was back working for WWE at Raw 25. With Mysterio set to wrestle Jushin 'Thunder' Liger for New Japan on March 25th, there are clear parallels between him and Jericho, and it's easy to see why WWE would agree to such a deal.

NJPW aren't a financial threat to WWE, so Vince McMahon loses little when guys like Jericho and Mysterio work there. On top of this, Rey's return generated massive buzz for the company, with the YouTube clip drawing over 12 million views. Another WWE run isn't guaranteed, but there's a clear demand for it.
