Why Dolph Ziggler Beat Randy Orton At WWE House Show This Weekend

Was Orton being punished?

Dolph Ziggler and Randy Orton made headlines this weekend when Ziggler scored a major upset victory at a Sunday house show. New theories have emerged as to why exactly it happened. Many speculated that Orton was being punished for his "latino Miss Piggy" comment he made on Twitter last week, but that doesn't appear to be the case. Randy Orton was originally pegged to face Roman Reigns on the card, but Reigns was participating in a tour of Australia. Dean Ambrose normally would have been the backup but was already booked with Seth Rollins. This left Dolph Ziggler to slide into the main event slot with Orton. WWE was left shorthanded on this tour as Chris Jericho, Sheamus, Kane, The Wyatt Family, Rob Van Dam, and Cesaro were all also on the Australian tour. John Cena was on neither loop as he had prior obligations. The WWE usually has a babyface win the main event on house shows in order to send the crowd home happy. With Ziggler getting that spot due to injuries and absences, it wasn't actually a punishment directed towards Orton. Orton will take on Roman Reigns in just under a week at Summerslam. Dolph Ziggler is booked to compete against Intercontinental champion The Miz on the show.
