Women's Match To Headline WWE NXT Takeover?

The talented women of NXT continue to impress.

The WWE divas in NXT continue to impress and now there are internal discussions that they might headline a NXT special this year. According to this week's Wrestling Observer, there is serious talk about having the women go on last. A lot of it will depend on who is in the match. Sasha Banks, the current NXT Women's Champion, is such a skilled performer that could definitely have a main event caliber match with anybody as long as there's a good story to back it up. She headlined a NXT live event in Philadelphia with Charlotte a few weeks ago, which garnered a lot of attention because it's such a rare thing. To do it during a NXT special on WWE Network would be a big deal. It's been reported for a few weeks that Triple H and Stephanie McMahon want to feature the women more, so this is a great way to do it. We've also seen UFC have a lot of success in pushing women to the main events of shows since Ronda Rousey is arguably their biggest star right now. Even though Hunter and Stephanie aren't necessarily big UFC fans, they know about Rousey's presence after working with her at WrestleMania. It was a year ago when Charlotte had her breakthrough match with Natalya on a NXT special that was arguably the best women's match in WWE history. There have also been great matches between Charlotte and Sasha in singles as well as a four way with Banks/Charlotte/Lynch/Bayley in February that was spectacular. The best match at the NXT Takeover Unstoppable show last week was Sasha Banks vs. Becky Lynch and the crowd showed their appreciation of it by giving them a standing ovation. There are two more NXT Takeover specials this year in August and November, so we could see the talented ladies of NXT in that main event slot. It would be a tremendous accomplishment if it were to happen.
