Despite everything that was said before the event about poor builds and strange bookings - where what Triple H was going to wear seemed more important than why he was fighting Sting at all - WrestleMania 31genuinely delivered.

When future generations look back at the 2015 event, they might well consider it a watershed moment, where a whole new era started. Fans of Roman Reigns probably thought that he'd be the one leading that new movement, but thanks to the considerable barrier of Brock Lesnar and the cheeky opportunism of a former ally, the belt is not his.

WWE had spent the night looking backwards as much as it was forwards: old heads and veterans appeared, championing history and legacy (and some of them won out over new contenders) and the new generation of potential champions bared their teeth. But then with an almighty twist, the future became the present and the company crowned a new heel champion right under Reigns' nose.
