WWE: 10 Awesome Matches That Showcased Great Ring Psychology

10. Alberto Del Rio vs Dolph Ziggler - Payback (2013)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rRpdVFXRshQ The most recent match on this list, Del Rio vs Dolph Ziggler featured the kind of straightforward storytelling we don't see enough of in the modern WWE. Dolph Ziggler had come off the back of his post Wrestlemania cash in, which was met with a thunderous response. Following that day, "the show off" had steadily risen in the estimations of the WWE faithful and was set to face off against the man he dethroned for the World Heavyweight Title, Alberto Del Rio. It's no surprise really, Del Rio was always awkward as a face. You know there's a problem when your ring announcer is more over with the crowd than you are. Ziggler on the other hand had been impressing fans with his heavy bumping in ring style. When Dolph Ziggler suffered a legitimate concussion and was forced out of the triangle ladder match against Swagger and Del Rio, the booking team saw an opening to capitalise on the shifting tides of crowd momentum and attempted the rarely successful double turn. It was a good call, as when Dolph walked through the curtains at the Allstate Arena, it was clear who they wanted as their champion. But it was not meant to be. Despite a heroic effort by Dolph, Del Rio's relentless targeting of the head finally took out the Zig-Zag man in just over 10 minutes. Which might seem a little short, but in reality it allowed Dolph's comebacks to avoid seeming unbelievable in the face of such a relentless onslaught. It's not quite on the level of Stone Cold and Bret Hart's double turn at Wrestlemania 13, but nothing is. One of the best examples of story based wrestling the WWE has produced in the last few years.
