9. The Mabel
No, not this kind of Mabel... This was a long running rib in the mid south and AWA territories in the seventies and early eighties. It revolved around convincing a new wrestler in the territory that an attractive wrestling groupie (known as ring rats) called Mabel (who was in on the gag) thought he was very attractive and wanted to take him to bed. The wrestler would show up at what was supposed to be Mabel's house and be told by Mabel to make himself comfortable in the bedroom she would join him when she had undressed. As soon as the wrestler was naked and in bed Mabel would let one of the other wrestlers in and pretend her husband had come home unexpectedly and was armed. The wrestler would then leap out of the window to avoid being caught and shot whilst the rest of the crew waited in their cars outside watching this poor terrified newcomer and newcomer leaping from the window in various states of undress.
