WWE: 10 Talking Points About John Cena’s Eventual Heel Turn

10. Cena's Character Is Stale

john cena Hustle, loyalty and respect. These three words have defined John Cena's WWE career to this point. Cena is presented as a hardworking, blue collar guy whose mantra fuels his every move and powers his every decision. It's simple, it's effective and it should be working. The key word here is "should." But the fact is that for many WWE fans, John's character is as stale as the 1990's era denim shorts he wears in the ring. The truth is that a great number of fans are just not buying it anymore. They're tired of the same old routine, week in and week out. It's as if John is frozen, trapped in a place where he never changes and he simply cannot evolve. Watching John Cena in 2013 is the same as watching him in 2010, 2007 and 2005. There is no dynamic aspect of his character, he's just standing still. Cena has virtually no edge, nothing to pique the crowd's interest the way he used to. The never-say-die Captain America gimmick has run its course and at some point, John should be repackaged into something new and fresh. What better way to do that than to turn him heel? In this modern era of anti-establishment heroes like CM Punk and Daniel Bryan, a character like John's seems very out of place. And while it may be working for him and for the McMahon family, it's just not working for fans.
