WWE: 13 Most Horribly Offensive Gimmicks Wrestlers Ever Took On

12. The Fat Chick Thrilla Mike Awesome

Fat people! Along with gingers, they're the ones its OK to use for comedy, right? Well no actually, but again in the world of wrestling it happens a lot. There was the Piggy James story which tried to suggest that the slender Mickie James was overweight, which she wasn't...not even for a WWE Diva. That angle of course had nothing on the angle WCW did in its final year. Mike Awesome was the ECW World Heavyweight Champion when he quit the company and debuted for WCW. For the struggling WCW it was a huge coup. They stole a rival brand's current champion. It has to be said though that they didn't treat him like a champion €“ within weeks he was given the gimmick of 'The Fat Chick Thrilla'. In the gimmick, the once extreme champion was now obsessed with ladies of a larger persuasion. Did it help in the ratings? No. Did his popularity go up with heavy people? Who knows. Did it pretty much finish off Mike Awesome's career? Yes. After the gimmick ended, Awesome became That 70's Guy, which was equally bad but only really offensive if you're particularly fond of that decade. His time in the WWE was fortunately without a terrible gimmick, but was simply bland up to his release. He returned and stole the show at the first ECW One Night Stand PPV a few years later, but didn't get rehired by the WWE. In that one match they showed how he should have always been booked, which incidentally was how he was always booked in ECW.
