WWE: 6 Ways To Improve The Intercontinental Title's Prestige

Intercontinental Title The WWE Intercontinental Title has been in existence since it was given to Pat Patterson in September of 1979. They like to say that he won a tournament, but that's more of a "wink wink" type of deal because the tournament didn't even happen. Over the years, the IC Title has gone from a very valuable prize from the mid 1980s when Randy Savage was holding it until the mid 1990s or so when guys like Razor Ramon and Shawn Michaels were putting their bodies on the line in ladder matches. Once we got to the 2000s, the value of the title decreased significantly. There was even a point in October 2002 when Triple H unified the IC Title with the World Title simply because WWE realized they weren't booking the IC Title well. In 2003, they brought the IC Title back because they probably realized that midcarders need something to fight for. That's why it's valuable. It's a prize for people not at the main event level. It can also be something that can test to see if a guy is able to carry it for a while and get over as a champion. In doing so, that grooms that individual for a future role as a possible WWE Champion. Many former IC Champs went on to become WWE/World Champions. It's a valuable title that WWE needs to revive. The current IC Champ Big E is facing Jack Swagger at Elimination Chamber, so that's good at least. We have no idea if he's going to be a part of WrestleMania. He should be, but we don't know. Here's a look at six ways that WWE can make the IC Title important again.
