WWE: Analysis Of Every Wrestlemania

Wrestlemania II - April 7, 1986

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ctsWk3Tl7EA Venue: The Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Uniondale, New York, The Rosemont Horizon in Rosemont, Illinois, and the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena in Los Angeles, California. Attendance: 40,085 (combined) For reasons known only to Vince McMahon the second Wrestlemania was broadcast simultaneously from 3 separate venues spanning from California to New York via Illinois. After the success of the previous year's PPV McMahon wanted bigger and better. He certainly managed bigger but better could be debated. In fact Wrestlemania II is listed as having the worst Wrestlemania main event of all time in Hulk Hogan Vs King Kong Bundy but we'll get to that later. The first four matches of the night took place at The Nassau Coliseum and were headlined by Mr T Vs Rowdy Roddy Piper in a Boxing match which ended when Piper body slammed T to earn a disqualification. Other matches included Macho Man Randy Savage defeating George Steele, Jake Roberts defeating George Wells and Paul Orndorff - who had headlined the previous year's show - in the opening contest wrestling Don Muraco to a double count out. The second part of the show - broadcast from The Rosemont Horizon - kicked off with The Fabulous (and ancient even then) Moolah defending the Women's championship against Velvet McIntyre.Next up was Corporal Kirchner defeating Nikolai Volkoff and Andre the Giant winning a 20 man battle royal ousting Bret Hart in the closing moments. The Illinois main event had Ozzy Osbourne on hand to support The British Bulldogs as the defeated The Dream Team (Greg Valentine and Brutas Beefcake) for the tag team titles. Los Angeles played host to the final part of the night which was treated as the top of the card despite the weak choice of matches it featured. The main event was the aforementioned stinker featuring Bundy and Hogan in a steel cage for the World Heavyweight Championship supported by Terry and Dory Funk in tag team action and Ricky Steamboat defeating Hercules Hernadez in 7 minutes. Although the sight of Hogan slamming the huge Bundy was an impressive feat it would quickly pale into nothing when Hogan slammed another giant heel one year later in Pontiac, Michigan.
