WWE Battleground 2016: Every Match Ranked From Worst To Best

What a pleasant surprise.

It's fair to say that expectations weren't massively high for this year's Battleground PPV: half the card looked uninspired and the fan consensus seemed to be that this was merely a filler stop-gap ahead of next month's SummerSlam.

That said, Battleground actually ended up being a relatively consistent and solid show, save for one undeniably terrible match. The rest ranged from acceptable TV-standard matches to a number of genuinely involving bouts, while the night's winner was genuinely one of the best displays the WWE has put on all year.

Sure, nothing of any real significance actually happened, cementing how arbitrary this show was, but it was a largely entertaining event on the whole and far better than most fans seemed to expect, so that's something.

Here is every WWE Battleground 2016 match ranked from worst to best...

9. I.C. Title: The Miz (c) Vs. Darren Young

Result: Young and Miz fight to what is apparently a double disqualification...for some reason (8:41).

Rating: Though it seemed possible that Darren Young's recent upswing might have an actual payoff, the fact that it would've resulted in Smackdown ending up with just one title made it pretty clear it wouldn't be happening.

Much like Becky vs. Natalya, this one suffered from having to come after Zayn vs. Owens, as it paled so heavily in comparison, such that the crowd resorted to "boring!" chants after a few minutes. Miz and Young tried to liven things up with a test of strength...which was a terrible idea.

The worst thing about this match, however, was the atrocious and confusing finish, and given that no result was ever actually announced, we're going with the real winner being the fan who shouted to Miz, "Straight to DVD, baby!".
