WWE Battleground Early Preview - 7 Matches That Will Take Place

Battleground takes place July 20th from Tampa, Florida.

WWE.comWWE.comOne big criticism of the WWE writing team is that aside from the main storyline, they do not book long-term for their Pay Per Views. The shows are then littered with thrown-together matches with little-to-no backstory. No show was this more evident than last year€™s Battleground, which had last-minute advertised matches like Santino Marella and Great Khali against The Real Americans, Curtis Axel against R-Truth, and Bray Wyatt against Kofi Kingston. It was one of the worst Pay Per Views of the year in 2013. With only three weeks between Money in the Bank and this year€™s Battleground, WWE could have gone a similar route by only booking three or four major matches and throwing together random matches to fill up the rest of the card. Instead, in one night, on a fantastic Raw from Hartford, Connecticut, the WWE writing team set the stage for an entire card for the next show. Only two matches have been announced so far, but it€™s a pretty safe bet that five other matches will be signed for the show. Let€™s take a look at the full anticipated Battleground card, for both the matches that have already been confirmed and the matches that are most likely to take place.

7. Jack Swagger vs. Rusev (rumored)

WWE.comWWE.comThe decision to turn Jack Swagger and Zeb Colter babyface against Rusev and his manager, Lana, has been a stroke of genius by the WWE writing team. After dissolving the Real Americans and seeing Cesaro as the breakout star of the team, Swagger had been floundering since Wrestlemania. His lack of direction has also been a waste of Zeb Colter, one of the top talkers in the company. The decision to turn Swagger babyface seemed natural as well, as crowds were changing along with Colter when he asked them to put their hands over their hearts and in a loud, clear voice, yell €œWe The People!€Rather than have the fans cheering for xenophobia and racism, the writing team had Colter focus more on talking about freedom of speech, which is an issue that everybody can identify with. And Rusev will play a perfect foil for Swagger. It€™s a foregone conclusion that they will meet at Battleground Prediction: As for the match, obviously the writing team will want to keep Rusev€™s winning streak going, but it€™s possible that the match will end in a no contest to keep the feud going through Summerslam.
