WWE Breaks All Time Gate Record At WrestleMania 31

Show is praised as one of the best WrestleMania events ever.

WWE set the all time gate record for pro wrestling at WrestleMania 31. The show grossed $12.6 million, reports f4Wonline, which breaks the $12.3 million set two years ago at WrestleMania 29 in New Jersey. The commercial success of this year's show is proof that creative problems and fan criticism didn't hurt interest in the event. WWE Network subscriptions are also expected to be way up. The attendance for the show was 76,976 and they paid to see what the critics are calling one of the best WrestleMania shows of all time. Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer said "This was one of the best shows I've ever seen" and put it in the same bracket as WWE's WrestleMania 17. Given the critical and commercial success of WrestleMania 31, the WWE have to be very happy with their efforts this year. They turned around what was a weak build going into the show. Something else that will make WWE happy is the amount of mainstream publicity around the event. Featuring UFC Champion Ronda Rousey in a physical segment with Stephanie McMahon ensured a ton of media attention for WWE. All the matches on the card ended up being good quality, with results that helped to elevate new stars and reinforce established performers. The main event was particularly spectacular, with Seth Rollins cashing in Money In The Bank to force a triple threat and become the new WWE Champion after pinning Roman Reigns when Brock Lesnar was pushed from the ring. All involved were more over after that match. Perhaps the one off point was the Sting vs Triple H finish, with Sting's loss deflating the buzz in the middle part of the show. All in all, WWE can be proud of one of the best critical and commercial WrestleMania performances in company history.
